The Anatomy of This Blog
For a while, I've been contemplating the idea of starting a blog that focuses on the practical side of church leadership. I’m not diving into theological debates, deep-dive exegesis, or anything that requires dusting off seminary terms like apologetics, hermeneutics, or ecumenical frameworks. I'm going much simpler than that. I want to talk about the everyday systems and workflows that make the rollercoaster of church leadership a little more manageable.
The Blog Itself
There are countless "blog hosts" that offer long lists of features, and I mean that as a negative. For what I want to do, I don't need e-commerce integrations, complex CDN setups, or Jetpack-powered features. All I wanted was a no-nonsense platform that would allow me to type something and share it. Of course, speed was a must too.
I was familiar with Bear and its ongoing development, but I'd never given it a full shot. Until now. It's a single-developer product (and that's a good thing). It fully powers this site (except the newsletter which is via Buttondown).
I have a background in web design. From early 2000s high school classes anchored by Microsoft FrontPage to the 2025 default theme of the Micro.blog platform (yep, I did that), it's been in my blood. It's for that very reason I wanted to create this blog on a platform that limits my desire to constantly tweak things. If given those options, I'd spend more time doing that than actually writing.
Simplify, Simplify
This site is bare. And that's intentional. There are no alerts to distract, no ads to block, no animations to make you dizzy. It's just the content, front and center. My goal is that the content provides the value needed to entice you to return, engage, and possibly subscribe.
